Another Corporate Portrait Photography Enquiry in Central Hong Kong: Why Professional Photography Requires More Than Just a Quote
This week, I received an email enquiry about corporate portrait photography in Central Hong Kong. The client mentioned she was looking for just two headshots, but the location was not clearly stated. She wrote that she was looking for a quote for “just 2 headshots” and asked about the shortest possible session.
One positive thing about this enquiry was the honesty. Many enquiries today simply ask for a price without explaining the real requirement, budget, or purpose. At least in this case, the client clearly stated what she needed, and I could understand that she might just need a professional portrait for her company profile, LinkedIn, website, or internal communication.
Because of that, I decided to prepare a quotation that could help her move forward. A small corporate portrait photography project might be important for someone’s career — perhaps helping her complete a company requirement, maintain her professional image, and even secure her position at work before the end of the month.
However, after many years working as a professional corporate photographer in Hong Kong, I also need to be realistic about how I spend my time.
Preparing a professional photography quotation is not simply writing down a number. It involves reviewing the requirements, considering the shooting arrangement, equipment preparation, lighting setup, post-production, retouching, usage rights, and the overall value of creating a professional corporate image.
For a simple two-headshot request, the production time may look short from the client’s perspective, but the experience, preparation, and professional workflow behind those images remain the same. A professional corporate portrait is not just pressing a camera button. It is about creating an image that represents a person and a company properly.
Unfortunately, I have received too many enquiries where people only want a quotation but have no real intention to proceed. They collect prices from photographers, compare numbers, and disappear. This creates a lot of unpaid administrative work and takes time away from serving serious clients who value professional photography.
Therefore, moving forward, I will no longer provide detailed quotations for every small enquiry without serious project information or commitment. My time needs to be focused on clients who understand the value of professional corporate portrait photography in Central Hong Kong, whether the session takes place in an office, a studio, or another location in Hong Kong.
Professional photography is an investment in your personal and corporate image. A well-created corporate portrait can influence how clients, colleagues, and business partners see you. It is not simply a headshot; it is part of your professional branding.
I appreciate every genuine enquiry, and I will always try to help when there is a real project behind the request. But professional photographers also need to protect their time and focus on creating quality work for clients who truly need it.
