Too Many Cables? The Reality of Our Modern Life

Look around your desk or your bag — how many different charging cables do you carry every day? USB-C, Lightning, and maybe even some outdated micro-USB still hiding somewhere. Our lives are now surrounded by tech gadgets: mobile phones, tablets, cameras, TWS earphones, portable SSDs, battery banks, and more.

Each device seems to come with its own cable, different charging speed, and unique connector. Some demand fast charging, some won’t accept more than a trickle of power. If you are a photographer like me, you probably need even more cables for camera batteries, lights, and backup devices.

It feels like technology has evolved faster than cable standards can keep up. Yes, USB-C is becoming a universal standard, but it’s still not truly universal — not all USB-C cables are made equal. Some deliver 240W, some barely do 10W.

Why does this matter? Because managing all this adds hidden stress. Too many cables, too many chargers, too many compatibility issues. It’s a daily nuisance that quietly chips away our productivity.

Maybe it’s time for the industry to truly embrace one universal standard. Until then, we’ll keep carrying a pouch full of cables everywhere we go.
